Please ask any questions and I will be happy to answer them. If anybody is concerned with my feedback rating. Is pretty cool looking- used to get compliments on it a lot. Comes with original case- which while not modern. It's in great shape, pads have a lot of life left in them, and won't need any substantial work for years if maintained properly. The horn was completely overhauled prior to my purchasing it, and it's only seen moderate use since then, as I'm mostly a tenor player these days. more something(check out the pic) But like i said, this is purely superficial, and considering the overall condition of the horn, it's nothing. There also is a loss of lacquer where this happened, looks like a stripe or. The bell lip has been rolled back out, but probably could be made even more true to form if you so desired. The only knocks on it are very superficial at some point before I owned it, the lip of the bell was bent a bit, and a couple of the keyguards have been bent slightly where they are screwed onto the horn. Lacquer is in great shape, 95% in tact, with only some speckling here and there and some light wear in the usual places. One of the earlier ones(late 1940's, serial#278,XXX) that has pearl on the palm and side keys, and engraving on some of the keys as well as really ornate bell engraving, and the silver neck as well. This is a fantastic vintage for these horns. This is a really nice Super 20 alto- purchased it from the original owner about 4 years ago. more Selmer mouthpiece, mouthpiece cover, the original plastic and chain neck strap, and a box of 8 unused#3 Rico Reeds, for whatever they are worth, and we don't know how old they are. The other items included as pictured are the plastic. There is also a key attached to the inside wall of the case, that can actually lock the case, but seems it has never been used. With red velvet interior, and itself is in very good condition. The saxophone comes in the original red hard shell case. The pearl inlays on the keys are all there, and in mint condition. The saxophone looks great, and the tone is quite superb, as you would expect.

The pads are in very good condition, as well, and there is one picture included to try and show that. The exterior is in very good condition, with just a few minor scratches, very polished and shiny. On the bell it says"King Super 20, The H. Which we have determined was made in 1951. Super 20’s are very consistent horn to horn, once you fix every little thing. And there are few people alive who will do this with as much skill, experience, and care as Matt will.Up for auction is a Vintage King Super 20 Alto Saxophone. Matt overhauled my personal Super 20 alto, which is just about the best alto ever. And because the consignor has a spot reserved with Matt Stohrer, you can choose to get it with his overhaul and also skip the line at the same time! You just cover the overhaul cost when the overhaul is done if you want to go that route. Comes with current pads, and the beautiful original red King case.
#King super 20 alto full#
This is among the nicest examples of the Full Pearls King Super 20 alto that I have seen. There’s some scratching on the back of the bow also. The only past repair is a bit of light dent work on the back (pants side) of the bow, which was done very well. The neck has never been damaged and even still has some of the original gold lacquer on it, which only the most pristine King necks still do.

#King super 20 alto serial#
Neck is in excellent condition, with matching serial number. It has its original pads still intact! Original lacquer. This King Super 20 alto is in very good original condition now. Meaning, your equipment will not be holding you back from attaining one of the most gorgeous and instantly beautiful alto saxophone tones that has ever existed. If you pair this horn with a Ted Klum New York model alto piece, and use a slightly soft reed for that extra bite, you’ll get fairly close to Cannonball tonally. Tone wise, just go listen to Cannonball Adderley on Somethin’ Else ( Dancin’ in the Dark gives you a classic representation of Super 20 alto tone.) Of course, you’ll have to practice a ton to sound as confident and eloquent as Cannonball, but still. (For tone, I also love early Conn 6M’s!) But the Super 20 wins because it also has solid silver neck, more modern ergonomics, and the full pearls. The King Super 20 Alto Saxophone with ‘full pearls’ (meaning pearls on side keys, palm keys, octave key, and G# in addition to the usual pearl key touches), is in my opinion the best all around vintage alto saxophone for jazz and lots of other styles. It gives you both one of the best altos ever made, and the chance to skip to the front of the line for a Matt Stohrer overhaul. Well folks, if you want the best, this is the alto you want.
